Ultrasonic weld inspections or ultrasonic weld testing is often used in quality control for ensuring compliance of welded connections and surrounding Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) with industry codes and standards. These codes often cite conditions such as lack of fusion, inclusions, porosity, and lack of penetration. Ultrasonic weld inspection is also used for finding in-service conditions such as fatigue cracks. These inspections are commonly performed on the structural components and connections in buildings, bridges, dams, railroad tank cars, marine terminals, boats and barges, steel storage tanks, construction equipment, and many other types of structures.

We routinly mobilize to Northern Maine, Southern Maine, Western Maine, Central Maine, and Down East Maine for ultrasonic weld inspecetions to meet the needs of our customers. We provide ultrasonic weld inspection anywhere in the USA but can most readily serve Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Ultrasonic Weld Inspection / weld testing, sometimes called Angle Beam Testing or Shear Wave Testing is an ultrasonic testing technique which is used to inspect a weld and the surrounding Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) for defects such as lack of fusion, inadequate joint penetration, porosity, inclusions, and cracks. Weld inspection is often used for testing of welds in pipe, sheet, structural framing, including the welded connections in buildings, ships, railroad tank cars, rail line, dams, bridges, construction equipment, and amusement park rides, as well as many other types of structures. We routinly provide ultrasonic weld inspection and weld testing services to Maine and New England based customers. The testing surface must be made smooth so that it is free of loose paint, rust, and dirt. A smooth testing surface ensures that the ultrasonic energy can be effectively transmitted into the test part. Ultrasonic weld inspection can usually be performed through surface coatings such as paint or an epoxy liner as long as the coating is tightly bonded and adhered well to the base material. We calibrate our flaw detectors on a block of similar material to the test piece and containing defects with known characteristics so that any reflectors that are observed in the weld can be characterized and sized accurately.
